Well, I promised you a while back, I think somewhere in this post or this post that I’d share my little “Angel Glow” action and “Multiply” action, and here they are! These are both for CS. If you use Elements, Erin shows you how to achieve Angel Glow in Elements here.
Here’s how Angel Glow works: it lightens, brightens, softens, and pops skin a little bit. It’s typically the method I use in combination with my “Oil Painting” technique (download the free action for OP here if you haven’t already) to get that really white/light skin combined with pretty contrasty backgrounds. Paint over the layer masks with a black brush anywhere you want the effect to be removed, and for goodness sake, adjust the opacity layers to your taste. Take them all the way down to 0 or all the way up to 100 if you’d like….whatever looks good to you.
Here’s how Multiply works: Multiply is what I use to paint around the edges of my pictures or darken when necessary. I typically use a large, soft, WHITE brush (you gotta use white…that’s crucial) and just paint on the layer mask. It’s super easy, you’ll like it. Vary your brush size/opacity for depth, and it’s best to use larger, softer strokes.
Here’s a B&A (because you know I love a good B&A!) where I’ve applied “Angel Glow” “Multiply” and nothing else. To take it to the next step, I’d probably run “Oil Painting” but for now, you should be able to really see the difference.
I ran “Angel Glow” twice and I adjusted the top layer – the soft light layer – up to around 30%. That’s the only adjustment I made.
Okay…now it’s time for me to give my little schpeel about not selling, or re-distributing this in any way for profit. Don’t do it, it’s not cool, and you’ll look like a jerk. Plus, Karma will find you (insert scary “oooooowwwhhh” sound here) and she will get you. Do feel free to use it on your blogs, in mentoring, etc. – just make sure you tell people where you found it.
Since we’re on the subject of giving credit where credit is due, please leave a comment if you’ve found this post enjoyable. I don’t mean to sound like I’m scolding here, but two posts ago – the nice little one where I showed you how to get amazing color with OP & add a nice flare – about 400 of you downloaded “Oil Painting” but only a handful of you stopped to say thanks. And I get it, I do. You’re sick of commenting on people’s blogs. It seems canned & insincere sometimes, and you wonder if the blogger on the other end of the screen could care less about what you think. Well, let me tell you, this one does. I care very much. Plus, I give you free stuff & tell you exactly how to edit pictures so they look really amazing. That’s very nice of me. So, show some love, gang. Yes, I just said that.
If this has been helpful, when you’re tallying out your daily quota of cyber comments, likes, twits, etc. spare a few words for me. It’s great to get feedback. It makes me want to give you more free stuff. Plus, it’s just the nice thing to do.
