Heaven and Nature Sing!

This is a very emotional post for me, for a couple of reasons.  It involves babies and cell phones, both of which evoke quite a bit of emotion in my little world.

*First of all – the baby part.*

I have two older brothers.  I love them dearly.  Even despite the years of teasing, taunting, and basic  run-of-the-mill sibling induced angst, I still love them.  My former post featured the beloved offspring of my eldest brother, and this post is dedicated to the newest member of our family, my middle brother’s  little miracle, who to us is affectionately known as “Baby Alex.”

A year ago, during our annual Thanksgiving trek to Texas, we were told that my brother & his wife wouldn’t be able to have any little ones of their own.  This was heartbreaking news for our whole family.   Well, as we all know, sometimes Doctors can be wrong.  Early this year, my brother called me up to share the happy news  that they were miraculously expecting Baby Alex.  So, this year’s trip to Texas was much different.  I had the pleasure of meeting, greeting, and photographing my new adorable nephew during his first days in this life.  And here he is:

I’ve saved the best of the best pics for their combo baby announcement/Christmas card.  However, do stay tuned…as this is certainly not the last you’ve seen of Baby Alex.

*Secondly, the cell phone part. *

If, for any reason, you have tried to call me within the last couple of weeks – please call back.  I’m not ignoring you, I promise.  It’s not you, it’s me, and my uncanny ability to loose cell phones.  However, due to my early New Year’s Resolution, I have decided to make a change for the better in that department.   Change, partially ignighted, by Skippy.

Skippy, aka the snarky/tech-savvy cell phone store representative, got a big kick out of my inability to distinguish between regular cell phone service and 3G service on our recent phone-shopping visit.  Yup, folks – that’s right.  That’s how much of a dinosaur I am when it comes to cellular technology.  I’ve just never been that into it.  Weird, I know.

However, thanks to Skippy’s snazzy product demonstration, the hubster and I are now proud new owners of  iPhones! Yay!   Pretty wild.  Especially for me, the anti-techy.  I was required though, to make a pretty steep promise to my husband (and oddly, to Skippy as well….who was a bit over-invested at this point..) that I would learn all about how to use it, I would be diligent about keeping up with it, that I would embrace being “connected” and that  I would make peace with the cellular technology Gods, who up until now, I have pretty much despised.  So, here we go.  I am reachable once again, and at same number as before.  If, however, you happen to call within the next day or so, do have some mercy on me.  I may not pick up right away simply because I don’t know how to yet.

I’ll have a few more shots to share between now and the end of the year, but not a ton.  I’m seriously relishing in the decision we made a couple years back – as a family – that I would not work during the month of December.  To all you other photogs out there who are tearing your hair during the last minute rush before Christmas, you may want to consider taking a little holida-hiatus down the road.  I know, I know….turning down business can be painful, but it is SOOO worth it to have the extra family time to do all the fun little Christmas things that are totally priceless.  So for now, I hope you all can also enjoy a  little bit of the Peace on Earth I have found during this truly wonderful time of year.   Hugs, PB

You are so generous with your talent and time--the birth announcement/Christmas card you did for us is amazing and I am so proud to tell everyone who sees it that you created it! December 19, 2009 - 6:44 am evie - First of all, your nephew is gorgeous! What a blessing and a miracle for them! Secondly, your bit about the cell phones had me cracking UP! I am terrible about learning how to do things with my phone. My 7 year old used the camera on it before I did. Congrats on the iphone! I got my husband one for Father's Day and he loves it!!

December 18, 2009 - 10:47 am Sheila - So much to comment on in this post! First of all, congratulations, Auntie! My "Baby Alex" is now 14, and it just keeps getting better! And welcome to the 21st century! Once you get used to your iPhone, you'll wonder how you lived without it. Yes, I'm still dealing with client orders, despite my claims that I wouldn't be. You can bet I'll be more careful about scheduling next year!

December 18, 2009 - 8:43 am cee - Been waiting for the pix of Alex...& it was worth the wait. The picture of the happy trio is breathtakingly beautiful, even more beautiful than I expected. Made me cry all over again. xoxo

Glad that you are now an iphone user, I am jealous b/c i'm still using an old fashioned regular phone... and please don't tell Skippy, but I don't know the difference between regular cell services and 3G either....

So much fun to play with but I am a tech kind of girl! Phones, cameras etc! Merry Christmas to you and your family and thanks for the great textures!! I love them and so do my clients! I have even given your site to photog friends who have never used textures!!

December 18, 2009 - 6:28 am Jeannine McCloskey - The wonderful thing about enjoying your own business is making your own decisions. I decided last year that Thanksgiving was my last day of work for the year. This allows me to enjoy, and make many beautiful memories for my family. I feel like I take so much away from the family during the entire year, that is my time to give back. I hope my children grow up enjoying every loving moment we spend together during the month of December and Christmas. Hope you enjoy this time, and Merry Christmas.
