How to Install Presets for ACR & Lightroom

Instructions for installing ACR presets:

Mac:

1.) Once you’ve downloaded and unzipped/extracted your ACR presets folder, open it up, and make a copy of all the presets inside by pressing “Control A” then “Control C”.

2.)  In Finder, navigate to your presets using the following path:  Finder/Your User Folder (this will have a little house next to it)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw/Settings – and paste your settings there.  They should now be visible in Adobe Camera Raw under the presets Tab.  (note: if you paste a subfolder, they will not show up.)  For a comprehensive Video tutorial demonstrating the installation process, please visit or www.pattibrownblog.com and navigate to the “Tutorials” section under the “Kaleidoscope” tab.

PC:

Unzip your file. Place your .xmp (adobe camera raw) files in one of the following paths:

c:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings

c:/documents and settings\compac administrator\application data\adobe\camera raw\settings

Windows 7 users use this path:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings)

Once your .xmp files are placed in the camera raw setting’s folder, you can begin to load the presets in ACR. To do this open up ACR. Next look at the top right side of your camera raw window, under the histogram. You will see a small box for presets. Usually it is the last button in a series of eight options. You will see a preset bar appear. At the end of the bar you will see a small arrow, click on it and a pull down menu will appear. Once you see the drop down menu, scroll down to ‘load settings’. Click ‘load settings’ and your finder box will appear. Locate your settings folder containing the .xmp files and select each .xmp file individually and click “load”. Repeat this step for each preset. After you have selected and loaded all of your files, your ACR presets are ready to use!

Please note:  I am able to load all of my presets at once by copying and pasting them into the “Settings” folder with my version of Windows (Windows 7) but you may not be able to, depending on what version of Windows you are running.  For a comprehensive video tutorial on how I do this, please visitwww.pattibrownblog.com and navigate to the “Tutorials” section under the “Kaleidoscope” tab.

Instructions for Installing Lightroom Presets:

For Mac:

After downloading & unzipping your presets folder, navigate to it, open the folder, and copy & paste the entire folder (not the individual presets) and navigate to the following path to get to your “Develop Presets” folder: user folder (this will be the one with a little house next to it)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets. Now, Paste the entire folder containing your presets into the “Develop Presets” folder. There will likely be another folder that says “User Presets” right next to it (those are LR’s default presets) or you may have additional presets there as well. Launch Lightroom and navigate to your presets are within the “Develop” module.  These will be located on the left hand side of the screen.  Press the arrow to open the “Kaleidoscope Presets” folder, and they should appear.

For PC:

Download the .lrtemplate files in the designated folder.  Unzip the file. If you encounter an “encryption” prompt, press yes (do this for each file if necessary.) Open Lightroom, press the develop tab. On the left hand side in the Presets section click on your preset arrow/tab and this will drop down the preset user area.  Right Click in the user preset area (or, if you’ve already set up a folder named something like “Kaleidoscope Presets, click on it) then choose import. Navigate to the .lrtemplate file (presets) in the folder you saved them in.  Select the presets and press import. The presets should automatically insert into your preset list.

Alternate Method:  I am able to load all of my presets at once by copying the entire, unzipped folder and pasting it into the “Develop Presets” folder. Paths are listed below, or you can just do a search for “Develop Presets” in your Windows Explorer tab.  This is a much simpler method, but it doesn’t work for everyone’s operating system.  To view a video of how I do this, visit www.pattibrownblog.com and navigate to the “Tutorials” section under the “Kaleidoscope” tab.

The most common path for Windows users (not Windows 7) to find the “Develop Presets” folder is:

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets

If you can’t find the “Develop Presets” folders on your computer, go to Hidden files & Folders and try these:

Windows 7: C: User/username /AppData/ Roaming /Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets

Vista: C: User /username /AppData/Roaming/ Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets

XP: C:/User > username/AppData/Roaming /Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets
