More Black & White…

…not sure what’s wrong with me lately, but all I seem to want to do is process in Black & White.  I read a quote somewhere today that said “When you photograph someone in color, you capture their clothes….but when you photograph someone in black & white, you capture their soul..”  Interesting.  Maybe I’m doing a little soul-searching of my own.  Regardless, here are a few crafty snaps I thought you all may enjoy.  They were from an ultra quick shoot that I’ll tell you more about later.  Let’s just say, I think this little girl is going to be famous one of these days!

Have a great weekend!  XOXO – PB

Jennifer German - I pinned that quote on Pinterest last week! 😀 I agree about that little girl, as well as yourself!

New Online Mentoring Class dates announced! (Plus $30 off for the first 10!)

Hello Friends,
Last month, I held my first ever online mentoring class – The Photoshop Creativity Class – and I’m pleased to say it was met with rave reviews!  Therefore, I have chosen to open up two more classes this fall.  One is an evening class (for those of us in North America, at least!) and will be held on September 27th.  The other is a daytime class, and will be held on October 23rd.  In addition to two hours of instruction and an hour for Q&A participants will also receive their own copy of my “Create” texture mini-collection, and access to the Mentoring Video Library – an exclusive collection of video tutorials that cover the demonstrated techniques, tips, and tricks I go over in class.  Participants will also receive a $50 gift card to the Kaleidoscope Shoppe after class!
In addition to being an extremely comprehensive class, which has been very well received, The Photoshop Creativity class is also a tremendous value!  I firmly believe that by utilizing the techniques taught in class, you will have an edge over your competition throughout fall’s busy shooting season, and throughout your entire photography career.
For full details, click here.  Class is currently priced at $225 per seat, however, the first ten registrants for each class will receive a $30 discount by entering the code: photoshop upon checkout.   I am also offering Private Online Mentoring throughout the fall, which is a one-on-one experience where we can go over absolutely anything you wish!  Email me at patti@pattibrownphotography.com for information on Private Online Mentoring.
As always, thank you for your continued support.  It has always been my goal to provide high-quality, well priced products, and I’m very excited to be able to continue that tradition by offering a mentoring experience that will leave you excited, enabled and inspired!
Look for some new images to make their way to this blog pretty soon too.
How did Summer become so busy?  Until next time, here’s hoping we can all carve out a little lazy before the season ends.
XOXO – PB

Patti - Hi Ashley,

Right now I’m re-structuring several aspects of Kaleidoscope, so I’m not doing any guest editorials at this time. Thank you so much for asking, maybe in the future? 🙂 – PB

Feeling Black & White.

I’ve been playing around with different black & white finishes lately, and it’s so much fun.  I know most photographers typically try to finish up their editing as quickly as possible, and I get why, but I just get lost in mine sometimes.  It’s like painting for lazy people.  I don’t have to get out my paints and brushes, canvases, set up my easel and then spend hours, days, weeks and months perfecting a painting.  I just click and drag, click and drag….it’s awesome.  Photoshop has always been part playground part laboratory to me, and I love it, I do.

Especially when I have an amazingly adorable little subject like the one featured above.  Thank you, Miss C for a wonderful time!

Patti - Hi Gail – yes I am overall. I wrote this post and this post reviewing Nikon a bit more in depth. As of right now, still happy. And no I haven’t gotten the recompose thing figured out yet. But also, I haven’t spent much time concentrating on that. Getting used to the focus points in Nikon and enjoying them a lot. HTH – PB

gail - Just wondering if you are happy with your switch over to Nikon and did you ever figure out the recompose thing?

August 15, 2012 - 12:30 pm

Patti - Hi Meg, I think so but I typically recommend it for CS users or those looking to transition into CS. I had a couple of Elements users in my last class, and they really enjoyed it. There are a few techniques in the form of filters that I use which don’t transition into Elements, but I think that most of the class does overall. I talk a little bit more about what software is recommended here.

I hope that helps! 🙂

August 15, 2012 - 11:46 am

Meg - Do you think I could still benefit from your class if I only have Elements? I’m very comfortable with the tools and understand layers, masks, etc. Thank you!

July 17, 2012 - 10:27 pm

Arwa Saifee - This was an amazing class. I learned a lot of information that I will be able to use to edit my pics.

Thank you Patti.

Linda C - Thank you Patti for a great class tonight. I am so excited to work on a few of the techniques that you taught us! You put a lot of thought into the best way to instruct your “students” and did such a thorough job… Well Done! I can’t wait for the next class and the Lightroom 4 preset update!
