I’m in this whole “returning to my roots” type of mood lately when it comes to photography. When I first got into photography, it was because I wanted to create beautiful images out of everyday life, and I wanted most of them to be black & white. Then I got into really experimenting with color and texture, and I’m so glad, because I learned so much. However, my first love will always be a black & white with a lot of blur. Not sure why. It’s just my thing, I guess. I hope you all enjoy these.

Also, if anyone out there has any insight as to using the “focus then recompose” feature in Nikon, I’d be very appreciative. No matter what I try, I can’t seem to get it to lock my focus on my subject. I do miss that about Canon. I am learning to manually switch focus points, but as you can see from the above images, I tend to forget.
As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a great week everyone! – PB

Brandy - Thank you for your presets and actions!I’m new to this and haven’t used them yet but I’m looking forward to it!
Patti - Hi Kim, I’ll try that! Thanks so much for the info. – PB
Kim @ Starry Sky Ranch - Patti, are you using the back focus lock button? I shoot Nikon and it completely changed my photography. It locks the focus to a single little focus box. Then you can hit the up/down/L/R button dial right next to the L button to move the box over your subject. Or I guess you could leave it on the center box and recompose.
It sounds like more steps than it is, but I am ususally shooting wiggly kids in manual and it goes quicker for me, and is more reliable, than anything else I have tried. I never, ever unlock that function. (which has bitten me when I have handed the camera off to my husband and forgot it was locked ; ))
Laurel - The Butterfly Hunters are awesome!! Love it! Btw, I purchased a set of your overlays awhile back after taking an online class with Texas Chicks. Erin used some in one of her examples, and the result was so gorgeous! I have been experimenting with them since, and I am OBSESSED! Great job, and THANK YOU!!
debbie - These B&W’s are stunning!!
Patti - Thanks, Barb! That’s what (i think!) I’ve been doing, but it only holds the focus point for like a split second? I’ll double check to make sure I’m not on continuous focus, because honestly, off the top of my head I’m not sure. I’ll follow up and let you know. I appreciate your input…who knows what I’ve got going on with my settings. Thanks again!
Barb - Hi Patti… For the “focus then re-compose” to work make sure you’re set on ‘Single’ focus as opposed to ‘Continuous’ focus. I usually use a single, center focus point as the focus is faster. Put that point over your subject, press the shutter half-way down and hold it there while you re-compose your shot. The focus will stay locked on your subject if you don’t let up on the shutter button!
Hope this helps!
Patti - Thank you so much!
Vinita - These are absolutely stunning Patti!
Donna (Texas) - Awwwwww….These are Wonderful! Cute kids!
